5E Conversions

1 min read

A lot of players are interested in converting 5E content they’ve created to Cool Name RPG. The conversion is as much an art as it is a science, but these guidelines will give you statistically similar results in CNGH as in 5E.

Armor #

If a monster is listed as having natural armor, give it an armor score of 1 or 2, depending on what seems appropriate for the creature. For monsters that wear armor, give them an armor score appropriate to the armor they are wearing.

Monster Attack Bonus #

The average 5E character has AC 15. This conversion provides an Attack score for CNGH monsters that creates a statistically similar chance for that monster to hit a Dodge 6 CNGH character as that same monster might have to hit an AC 15 character.

Hit Points to Vitality #

Halve the monster’s HP (round up) to determine their maximum Vitality.

Equipment Price Conversions #

Prices in Cool Name RPG are silver based rather than gold based. Most CNGH prices are listed in silver pieces, unless it is a particularly inexpensive item, in which case it is listed in copper pieces. The changes go deeper than this, but a simple way to include items from 5E products is to use the same numeric value but reduce the coins by one denomination. For instance, an item priced at 2 gp in standard 5E book would cost 2 sp in a CNGH game. It’s not a perfect conversion but it will work in a pinch.
